Effect of hemoglobin on LPS-binding to macrophages. 3H-LPS from P. gingivalis and F. nucleatum were added to macrophages at a final concentration of 1 µg/mL in the presence or absence of hemoglobin (10, 50, 100 µg/mL). After 24 hrs, the quantity of 3H-LPS bound to macrophages was determined with the use of a multi-purpose scintillation counter. A value of 100% was assigned to the amount of LPS bound in the absence of hemoglobin. *p < 0.05.
