Two Modes of Nanoleakage Expression in Single-step Adhesives

Despite variation in their acidity, a similar reticular mode of nanoleakage expression was consistently observed in the 4 self-etch adhesives. Within the hybrid layers, a horizontal network of electron-dense silver deposits (pointers) could be found around the unstained collagen fibrils. An additional series of vertically oriented silver deposits (open arrowheads) extended from the surface of the hybrid layers into the overlying adhesive layers (A). The spotted mode of nanoleakage expression consisted of isolated spots of silver grains (pointers) that were dispersed within the hybrid layers and adhesive layers (A). The reticular mode of nanoleakage expression that was previously observed in conventional silver nitrate could also be seen. For One-Up Bond F (Fig. 2CGo), vertical streaks of silver deposits (open arrowhead) that were vaguely identified from Fig. 1CGo as a result of the sectioning plane of the specimen were more pronounced.
