Susceptibility of the pregnant female rat to possible teratogenic effects from acute nitrous oxide exposure was studied. A statistically significant increase in fetal death rate (ranging from 19.1 to 7%) was observed with exposure during various periods of organogensis. No significant differences in fetal length, weight, or organ-to-body-weight ratio for spleen and liver were observed.
