Changes in solubility and fluoride uptake by enamel were measured after daily use of a 0.4% stannous fluoride gel by an adult population. Enamel surface fluoride concentration increased as calcium and phosphorus solubility was reduced. Daily use of a 0.4%, SnF2 gel provided significant enamel protection in adults.
