Organic Polymeric Polyphosphonates as Potential Preventive Agents of Dental Caries: In Vivo Experiments

M. ANBAR 1, G. A. JOHN 1, and T. E. ELWARD 1

1 Stanford Research Institute, Menlo Park, California 94205, USA

Some polymeric polyphosphonates were examined as caries preventives in rats. Cariessusceptible male rats showed about 50% reduction in caries formation after topical treatment with any of the polyphosphonates tested. Because of their low toxicity, these materials may be considered as potential anticariogenic additives to a dentifrice.
