The solid phases obtained from aqueous and molten tin(II) fluoride-zirconium(IV) fluoride systems are described. A new compound is identified by its chemical analysis, and Xray and Mössbauer data. In in vitro enamel solubility tests and in a rat caries experiment, the new compound exhibited efficacy comparable to stannous fluoride and sodium fluoride.
