Gas chromatography was used for specific determination of the carbon dioxide content of human enamel and dentin. Although there was a wide range of results from the two types of gas chromatographs used, evidence of carbon dioxide was found in the temperature range of 400 to 900 C. Small amounts of acetylene, ethylene, methane, and hydrogen also were found.
