A New Dental Superalloy System: IV. X-Ray Diffraction Analysis

HAMDI MOHAMMED 1, KAMAL ASGAR 1, and O. F. KIMBALL 1

1 School of Dentistry, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104, USA

X-ray diffraction analysis of the alloy system Co-Ni-Cr-Ta showed that the ternary alloy base consisted of three phases (agr, beta, and sgr). Addition of Ta caused a decrease in the intensity of the beta lines. Further Ta additions caused diffraction lines characteristic of the intermetallic compound agr-Co3Ta. At higher Ta concentrations, the intensity of the lines characteristic of the sgr phase increased and lines characteristic of Co2Ta appeared.
