The behavior of dental amalgam and of alloy powder was studied as a function of temperature with the aid of a thermal analyzer. At more than 400 C, mercury in the set amalgam was evaporated completely. Differential thermal analysis and the thermogravimetric curves of the alloy powder and of the set amalgam were the same at temperatures more than 400 C.
