By use of immunohistochemical staining methods, salivary and serum components, ie,
-globulin and serum albumin, were found in sound and carious human dentin. Most notable reactions were observed in dentinal tubules beneath a translucent zone (radiopaque zone) in carious dentin. Oral microorganisms also were found in soft carious dentin.
