S. H. PAIK 1, J. E. KENNEDY 1, and H. A. ZANDER 1

1 Department of Periodontology, Eastman Dental Center, Rochester, New York 14603, USA

Subcutaneous tissue reaction to cementum that had or had not been exposed to the oral environment was investigated in rats. The implants were surrounded by a connective tissue capsule. Resorption or deposition on cementum was not observed. Where cut ends of dentin were contacting the connective tissue capsule, osteoid deposition occurred.
