Subcutaneous tissue reaction to cementum that had or had not been exposed to the oral environment was investigated in rats. The implants were surrounded by a connective tissue capsule. Resorption or deposition on cementum was not observed. Where cut ends of dentin were contacting the connective tissue capsule, osteoid deposition occurred.
