Actinobolin, an antibiotic that is inhibitory in vitro for cariogenic streptococci and that has strong cariostatic activity in vivo, appears to exert a bacteriostatic effect on Streptococcus faecalis. In S faecalis, the primary action of actinobolin seems to be in protein synthesis.
