Histochemical Studies of Papillary Hyperplasia of the Palate: Enzyme Histochemistry of Papillary Hyperplasia and Normal Palatal Mucosa

VIOLA D. FLANAGAN 1 and KENDALL PORTER 1

1 Department of Pathology, School of Dentistry, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Kansas City, Missouri 64108, USA

Representative enzymes from four enzyme groups, which have been related to premalignant or malignant activity, were studied histochemically. Tissues from patients with papillary hyperplasia, normal denture-wearing patients, and normal nondenture-wearing patients were examined. No differences were noted in the distribution of the enzymes in the different tissues that could be related to premalignant or malignant change.
