Effects of Low Kilovoltage X Rays on Cultured Human Peripheral Leukocytes

BENJAMIN CIOLA 1

1 Department of Oral Radiology, University of Connecticut Health Center, School of Dental Medicine, Hartford, Connecticut, USA

Cultured human peripheral leukocytes were irradiated with a beryllium window therapy machine. The data were subjected to an analysis of variance to determine if differences existed between amounts of exposure and time of exposure in the 72 hour culture period. Additionally, the analysis was designed to determine if interactions existed between amount of exposure and time of exposure. A statistically significant linear trend of total aberrations was observed with increasing amounts of radiation at the 0.01 level. Time of irradiation had no effect on the total abberrations.
