Analysis of Attrition in Adult Human Molars

C. L. B. LAVELLE 1

1 Department of Anatomy, University of Birmingham, Birmingham 15, England

Attrition in 359 maxillary and mandibular molar dentitions from 19th century British, Anglo-Saxon, Mongoloid, West African, and Australian aborigine skulls was studied. Restilts showed a relative lack of attrition in the 19th century British dentitions in comparison with the other dentitions. This feature was confirmed on examination of 300 maxillary and mandibular molar dentitions from the present-day British population.
