Trituration of Amalgam

J. K. HARCOURT 1 and E. P. LAUTENSCHLAGER 1

1 Northwestern University Dental School, Chicago, Illinois 60611

Motion pictures taken with a simple camera and stroboscopic lighting permitted measurements of exact positions and component velocities of amalgam, pestle, and capsule during trituration. Measured constant amalgam and pestle velocities and simple harmonic oscillator capsule motions were related to an energy input model and correlated with developed amalgam strengths.
