The bacteriologic profile of selected tooth surfaces was determined before and after prophylaxis by use of culture methods and direct smears. There was an initial increase in cocci after prophylaxis and a decrease in all other forms. The distribution of organisms tended to return to preprophylaxis levels in 30 to 60 days.
