In Vitro Antibiotic Sensitivity of Oral Microorganisms to Actinobolin

D. E. HUNT 1, H. J. SANDHAM 1, and R. C. CALDWELL 1

1 Institute of Dental Research and Department of Microbiology, University of Alabama Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama 35233

Actinobolin was tested by a paper disk-agar diffusion method for inhibitory activity against cariogenic streptococcal strains, mixed microbial cultures, bacteria, and yeasts. The cariogenic streptococci and the mixed cultures were highly sensitive to inhibition by actinobolin, which suggests that this antibiotic may be useful as a cariostatic agent.
