Growth of the mandibular condyle was studied in four rhesus monkeys of different ages. Indexes of 3H-thymidine labeling indicated high premitotic activity, which decreased with age, in the intermediate zone of cartilage and the zone of erosion and bone formation. Premitotic uptake in the articular zone was independent of age.
