Effect of Compaction Technic and Mercury: Alloy Ratio on the Adaptation of Spherical Alloy Dental Amalgam

Six different ratios of mercury to alloy were evaluated for a spherical alloy dental amalgam by hand and pneumatic compaction into a test cavity with an internal line angle of 300. Measurements of the area of discrepancy between amalgam and wall of the cavity in 240 specimens showed that varying the amount of mercury in 1 % increments between 48 and 52% compositions did not introduce significant changes in adaptation for either of the two compaction technics.
