In organ cultures of rat-palatal processes from 15-day-old embryos, addition of vitamin A or vitamin A with cortisone to the culture medium caused nonfusion and epithelial disruption. Cortisone alone did not show a teratogenic effect; nor did it exaggerate the effect of vitamin A.
