Innervation was correlated with the development of the hamster maxillary incisor. Absence of nerves until the stage of morphodifferentiation indicated that the initiation and early proliferation of the tooth germ was independent of the nervous system. The association of nerves with the tooth germ during morphodiflerentiation may mean that nerves influence shaping of the tooth.
