Marginal protein deficiency in female rats during pregnancy and lactation resulted in reduced weaning weights, delayed eruption and abnormal cuspal patterns of the third molars, and increased dental caries incidence in offspring. Complete protein deficiency during five-day intervals in lactation caused reduced weaning weights and delayed thirdmolar eruption, which increased when the the protein deficiency was late in lactation.
