3H-Proline Uptake by the Cells of Developing Teeth

FAYEZ S. SAYEGH 1

1 Department of Histology, Eastman Dental Center, Rochester, New York 14603

Thirty-seven white rats were killed one-half hour to two months after administration of 3H-proline. Radioautographs were made, and the labeled material was assessed in the cells of the developing tooth at various stages of maturation. From the location of the labeled material, it was possible to compare the metabolic activities of the cells involved in tooth formation as well as the daily rate of dentin apposition.
