Further Studies on the Relationship of Dietary Fluoride to Fluoride Content of Human Teeth

D. TRIERS 1, C. G. ELLIOTT 1, and M. DOREEN SMITH 1

1 Faculty of Food Science, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario. and Department of Chemistry, University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario

Deciduous and young permanent dentin from children in St. John's, Newfoundland, contained more fluoride than did similar Toronto, Ontario, dentin, the difference being attributed to high- and low-fluoride diets, respectively. Conversely, older permanent dentin from people in these areas contained similar amounts of fluoride, perhaps because of earlier poor nutrition in St. John's.
