Anglo-Saxon and Modern British Teeth

C. L. B. LAVELLE 1

1 Anatomy Department, University of Birmingham, Birmingham, England

Estimation of the dimensions of Anglo-Saxon and modern permanent dentitions provided the basis of this investigation. The premolars, canines, and incisors of Anglo-Saxons appeared larger than those of contemporary subjects. The reverse was true for the molars. These changing tooth dimensions may contribute to the increasing prevalence of dental overcrowding.
