Centripetal Localization of Tooth and Tongue Tension Receptors

R. DALE SMITH 1 and H. Q. MARCARIAN 1

1 Department of Anatomny, Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha, Nebraska

Potentials evoked from proprioceptors of the jaws, teeth, and tongue were recorded from the trigeminal mesencephalic nuclei. The jaw movement receptors responded in 65%, the tooth receptors in 35%, and the tongue receptors in 29% of the loci tested. The loci of the tongue receptors were bimodally distributed in the nucleus.
