Viscoelastic Properties of Some Denture Base Materials

M. BRADEN 1 and G. D. STAFFORD 1

1 Dental School of The London Hospital Medical College, University of London, London, and Turner Dental School, University of Manchester, Manchester, England

Four denture base polymers were studied by using a torsional pendulum apparatus. Shear modulus and mechanical loss tangent were determined after five seconds over the temperature range 20C to 105C, and hence a transition temperature (TG) was obtained. A polycarbonate had a high TG together with superior elastic properties.
