Fluoride content of drinking waters obtained from different sources in Fars Province was determined by a titrimetric method. The values obtained ranged from 0.1 to 3.6 ppm with an average of 0.67 ppm. The high content of fluoride in waters of some areas (usually, areas close to the sea) corresponds to the reported high incidence of mottled teeth among the population of these places. Defluoridation of water supplies may be the best way to prevent fluorosis in places where no other source of drinking water is to be found.
