Patterns of occlusal termination in the normal deciduous dentition in 313 Israeli preschool children were surveyed and related to dental abrasion, interdental spacing, overjet, and overbite.
Both types of occlusal termination were found. The terminal vertical plane was 2.4 times more frequent than the terminal mesial step. Interdental spaces and type of occlusal termination showed no statistically significant correlation. Primate spaces were more often found in the terminal mesial step pattern in the maxilla and evenly distributed among both patterns in the mandible. Abrasion, overjet and overbite showed a positive correlation with the terminal vertical plane pattern.
