Penicillin is a component of a polyantibiotic used for root canal medication. Although the polyantibiotic has been in general use more than 15 years, few reports of sensitivity to its penicillin component have been reported. This study was undertaken to determine if the penicillin from the polyantibiotic entered the blood stream and involved 26 patients for whom 31 teeth were being treated endodontically. In blood samples taken 1 hour and 24 hours after insertion of the polyantibiotic in these teeth, penicillin was not detected.
