The activity of GPT in gingiva and liver was apparently decreased after 3 weeks of scorbutic regimen. In spite of the low ascorbic acid level, this decrease was prevented by administration of insulin.

The GPT in gingiva of guinea pigs can be successfully separated into two isozymes (GPTI and GPTII) by DEAE-cellulose column chromatography. In scorbutic guinea pigs, the activity ratio of GPTI/GPTII was considerably reduced. The activity of GPTII did not change; only the activity of GPTI was affected. The reduction in GPTI activity caused by scurvy was alleviated by insulin treatment. These activity patterns were also observed in the two GPT isozymes of liver, GPT in a soluble solution (GPT8) and GPT in mitochondria (GPTm).
