1 Department of Physiology, School of Dentistry, University of Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina

The NADP transfer hydrogen enzyme and NADH cytochrome c reductase activity was studied in gingiva, periosteum, and periodontium of the inferior incisor region of guinea pigs and levels were compared with those in adrenals, liver, kidneys, and testes of the same animals.

The level of NADP transfer hydrogen enzyme activity in periosteum and periodontium was high and similar to that of the liver. The level of activity in gingiva was lower than in the other tissues studied.

The level of NADH cytochrome c reductase activity in the periodontal tissues was lower than in the other tissues.

In gingiva, the levels of activity of both enzymes were very low in contrast to the high levels of relative activity expected.
