For the demonstration of the existence of osteoclasts in tooth-supporting tissue following orthodontic status a histochemical technique was used. The marked succinic dehydrogenase in osteoclasts was detected in fresh-frozen sections following decalcification with EDTA neutral solution at 4° C. Osteoclasts developed under normal and orthodontic status revealed marked succinic dehydrogenase activity, and osteoclasts were exhibited in the periodontal surface on the pressure side. They were characteristically developed along the marrow surfaces on the tension side.
