A method was described for measuring comparative amounts of gas evolved during firing of high-fusing gold alloys. Touching or handling the metal with fingers prior to enameling is the greatest cause of producing a volatile contaminant. Heating the alloy to 1900° F. prior to veneering will insure a minimal amount of gas given off during the enameling procedure.
