The leukemias, as well as most of the solid tumors in fowl and mice, were shown to be virus induced. Numerous isolated tumors in other animals have also been shown to be caused by viruses. Tumors in man, however, while showing such presumptive evidence as viruses within the cells and fluorescent antibody binding, have not been definitely shown to be virus induced. A search for viruses in human malignant disease is being conducted in many laboratories. A breakthrough in the area of virus etiology of human malignant disease seems imminent.
