Through the use of H3-thymidine some of the parameters of the process of differentiation of the inner enamel epithelium are suggested which appear to be related both to the rate of and the ability to undergo DNA synthesis. The ability to undergo further cellular division diminishes with differentiation. However, during this process a period exists when apparently portions of the DNA molecule may be renewed without subsequent cellular division. During the process of differentiation the length of time required for DNA synthesis, of those cells which are still dividing, appears to be lengthened.
