The qualitative features of "normal" enamel, as seen with the polarizing microscope, were recorded for several different mounting media. The histologic features could be interpreted in terms of the distribution of pores or spaces in the enamel and of its structural elements. Fresh and stored teeth (70 per cent alcohol) did not show any significant differences, but it was found that sections, as opposed to whole teeth, frequently showed qualitative differences after storage in 70 per cent alcohol.
