Developmental cysts in the hard palates of 32 prenatal and four full-term fetuses were investigated.
Numerous cysts Were found in prenatal fetuses, but this number was reduced in late fetal life and early infancy.
A mechanism describing the origin and fate of these cysts was presented.
The association of these developmental cysts with cleft palate formation, though unlikely, needs further clarification. The high frequency of occurrence of these cysts suggests that this is a normal pattern of growth and development associated with the phase following palatal closure.
