A series of skulls of Peromyscus oreas trapped on Mount Seymour, British Columbia, showed severe destruction of alveolar bone in both jaws. The teeth were not affected. The condition seems to be persistent in this area but has not been noted in this species in other areas or in a related species (P. maniculatus austerus) on Mount Seymour. The cause of the condition is unknown.
