In an earlier temporally controlled study11 we showed that the calcium from the calcium hydroxide dressing did not enter into the formation of the newly formed dentin in pulp-exposed dog teeth.
This finding suggested, that the calcium in the dentin bridge might stem from another source. The present study had a limited object to determine whether under conditions similar to those in our previous investigation, intravenously injected Ca45 was incorporated into the dentin bridge. The findings showed that the calcium in the newly formed secondary dentin comes from the blood stream.
