1 Department of Oral Surgery and Department of Home Economics, State University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa

Wounds were inflicted into the tibia of adult female guinea pigs in varying stages of ascorbic acid deficiency. Using an intracardiac-puncture technique, blood was drawn from control and deficient animals, then analyzed. After wounding, ascorbic acid-serum levels of deficient animals fell at a less accelerated rate than before wounding or leveled off. Ascorbic acid-serum levels of control animals maintained pretest levels. The study needs further investigation before conclusions can be presented.
