Thromboplastic Activity of Human Saliva in Patients under Prolonged Anticoagulation Therapy

H. CHRIS DOKU 1, RICHARD G. TAYLOR 1, HERBERT S. SISE 1, and ROBERT BECKER 1

1 Department of Oral Surgery, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, and Anticoagulant Laboratory, Boston City Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts

Human saliva contains distinct Factor VII activity, which can be modified by oral anticoagulants (Table 5). Factor IX activity is present in small amounts and is not modified with oral anticoagulants. Any Factor x activity that may be present is too little to measure. No evidence is found for the presence of any prothrombin, or antithrombin.
