Norethandrolone-treated Sprague-Dawley-strain albino rats had a greater incidence of dental caries in molar teeth than respective control animals or animals on a diet supplemented with 2 per cent Na2HPO4.
The addition of 2 per cent Na2HPO4, to the diet of norethandrolone-treated animals decreased the caries incidence in molar teeth so that it approximated that of control rats fed a caries-test diet supplemented with 2 per cent Na2HPO4.
The addition of 2 per cent Na2HPO4 to the basic caries-test diet reduced caries incidence in animals sustained on this diet, in comparison to animals fed basic caries-test diet only.
Analysis of autopsy organ weights showed a slight androgenic effect produced by the systemic action of norethandrolone.
