Some Observations on the Transmission of Dental Caries in the Syrian Hamster

Attempts to transmit dental caries from desalivated hamsters with severe tooth decay to caries-resistant stock with intact salivary glands were unsuccessful. Evidence has been presented, however, that Alabama caries-resistant hamsters with intact salivary glands develop appreciable dental caries when caged with National Institutes of Health caries-active hamsters.
