A procedure for the electrophoresis of parotid and extra-parotid salivary proteins has been described. The electrophoretic medium was starch gel containing a high concentration of urea buffered at pH 3.9 with formate buffer. This medium prevented interaction among the salivary proteins and gave patterns with a high degree of resolution. Under the conditions described, most of the salivary proteins migrate toward the anode. At least 5 zones were detected in most specimens of saliva and there appeared to be variations in the pattern from one individual to another.
