A mark-sense system for recording dental caries in the field was described. Marksensing allowed direct recording into machine language during the examination. A packet of 28 tooth cards and one master card were used for each patient. This permitted efficient recording and detailed analysis. An outline of the steps in processing the cards on standard punched-card machines was described.
