I. STRUCTURAL FACTORS IN PERIODONTAL DISEASE

A Critique of Normal Connective Tissues of the Periodontium and Some Alterations with Periodontal Disease

This report comprises a short review of (a) the structure, chemical composition, metabolic behavior, and staining reactions of collagen; (b) the comparative histochemical reactions of elastic and oxytalan fibers; and (c) the composition and histochemical reactions of mucopolysaccharides. Some alterations of these structures and their staining reactions with function and periodontal disease were discussed.
