A dropping-weight impact test for dental porcelain has been developed which correlates qualitatively with observed clinical behavior. Significant impact-strength differences were found between porcelains, the extent or degree of the differences being controlled by the specimen shape and exact test conditions. Vacuum-fired porcelains were consistently stronger than air-fired porcelains when measured by this test method.
