Molybdenum toxicity was produced in rats of the NMRI-D strain by adding 400 p.p.m. molybdenum as sodium molybdate to a basal purified diet.
Fifty per cent of the animals receiving the molybdenum showed markedly poorer growth responses, low hemoglobin levels, low hematocrit values, and developed mandibular exostoses.
The mandibles and teeth were subjected to histologic examination which indicated that the morphologic changes attendant on molybdenum toxicity resembled lathyrism except for minor details.
